Iririki sits right in the middle of Port Vila’s harbour, so close that you can read the menus from the seafront. In colonial times it housed the British Resident Commissioner and a hospital; today the whole island is a resort, with bungalows on stilts along the shore and thick gardens up the hill.
You do not have to stay there to visit. Day passes give non-guests the ferry, the pools and the snorkelling cove on the far side of the island.
Top things to do: Iririki Island
Spend a day by the pool
The resort has several pools, including one facing west across the harbour, plus restaurants and bars. A day pass is an easy answer to a hot afternoon or a cruise call with no plans.
Snorkel the cove
On the side facing away from town there is a small sheltered cove with coral and reef fish, reached by a path across the island.
Come for sunset or dinner
The ferry runs late, and the view back to the lights of town from the bar is one of the best in Port Vila.
How to get to Iririki Island
- Ferry: the resort’s own boat leaves from a jetty on the seafront near the centre and takes about three minutes. It runs around the clock for guests.
- Day pass: buy it in advance online (it is one of the bookable experiences we list) or ask at the ferry jetty. Passes can be limited when the resort is full.
Insider tips
- Check what the pass includes — some come with food and drink credit, others are entry only.
- Bring your own snorkelling gear if you have it.
- Day access can be restricted on busy cruise days and during private events.
